Job summary

The Red Hat Software Engineering team is looking for a Software Applications Engineer to join us in Raleigh, NC. In this role, you will work on an innovative IT Integration Services team focused on cloud technologies, developing and ensuring adoption of RESTful APIs. You'll collaborate with both local and remote team members to document, design, develop, test, release, and maintain enterprise middleware solutions. These solutions will conform to enterprise design patterns using the OpenShift by Red Hat and Red Hat JBoss Middleware technologies. You'll contribute to the team's capabilities by demonstrating technical competence, personal initiative, creativity, learning, sharing, and ability to work as part of a team.

Primary job responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, and maintain Linux-based scripts as well as REST and SOAP services for internal and external customers
  • Prepare test plans, documentation, and deployment plans for all our services, including enterprise service bus (ESB), Messaging-as-a-Service (MaaS), and web services both in the cloud and within datacenters
  • Analyze business requirements to implement server-side business logic
  • Clarify customer requirements and evaluate alternative solutions
  • Design database schema, build supporting infrastructure, and develop application code
  • Provide open source technical support and research open source technologies to provide leadership in developing service applications

Required skills

  • 3-5 years of experience performing object-oriented analysis and design
  • 3-5 years of experience implementing design patterns in languages like Java and performing Linux administration
  • 3-5 years of experience using Java, Oracle PL/SQL, MySQL, XSLT, and UML
  • 3-5 years of experience developing applications working in an agile development environment
  • 3-5 years of experience with distributed source control tools like Git or Apache Subversion
  • 1-2 years of experience developing applications working in an agile development environment
  • 1-2 years of integration experience
  • 1-2 years of practical experience with XML and XSD
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, engineering, or other closely related field


Experience with the following will be considered a plus:

 

  • Red Hat JBoss Fuse and Red Hat JBoss AMQ
  • Swagger
  • OpenShift by Red Hat
  • NoSQL databases like MongoDB
  • Writing automation with scripts or using tools like Puppet, Chef, Ansible by Red Hat, or Jenkins
