Job summary

The Red Hat North America Revenue Accounting team is looking for an intern to join us in Raleigh, NC. In this role, you will be responsible for day-to-day accounting and compliance activities as related to the risks involved with complex revenue arrangements. You'll need to be able to communicate clearly and effectively with other groups both inside and outside of the Finance team, including Deal Desk, Sales, Legal, Project Accounting, Sales Operations, IT Support, and product owners. We will need you to have a basic understanding of accounting principles under U.S. GAAP.

Primary job responsibilities

  • Assist with the period-end closing process by preparing account reconciliations and journal entries
  • Work with the Project Accounting team in setting up and reviewing services projects to ensure appropriate revenue recognition
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls and processes to ensure adherence to Sarbanes-Oxley policies to cash process
  • Assist with quarter-end external audit and review processes
  • Work closely with other departments inside and outside of finance on special projects as needed
  • Assist in adoption of ASC 606 and related projects

Required skills

  • Working towards a bachelor's degree in accounting
  • Any experience with SOP 97-2 (ASC 985-605), software revenue recognition
  • Knowledge of U.S. GAAP
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Willingness to work extra hours during quarter-end and other high-volume times when and if necessary
