Job summary

The Red Hat Products and Technologies Operations Data and Analytics team is looking for a Data Engineer to join us in Raleigh, NC or Westford, MA. In this role, you will expand our current analytics capabilities by helping create new strategies and data tools to ensure that the team has access to the necessary data and that the data is stored in a manner that facilitates analysis. You’ll be responsible for understanding the team's data objectives and then investigating and implementing data engineering technologies that best support the team's mission. As a Data Engineer, you will engage with stakeholders to architect systems and strategies for extracting, transforming and optimizing data flows from complex, sometimes disparate, data sources. You’ll develop, implement, and maintain distributed systems around all elements of data analysis with a constant focus on continuous improvement.

Primary job responsibilities

  • Author and collaborate on technical requirements, specifications, proposals, high-level designs, and other applicable engineering documents
  • Conduct detailed technology research on industry and vendor solutions for managing data and implement new solutions in the Innovation team's lab to identify those which are the most promising
  • Provide expertise for the Data and Analytics team and collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to streamline or improve adoption of analytics into their projects
  • Work with data owners inside the Products and Technologies team to understand what data is needed and available and how to get access to that data
  • Modify, transform, clean, and normalize data so that it is usable by the team's data scientists and analysts

Required skills

  • 1+ year(s) of experience engineering ingestion and storage systems for big data environments
  • Experience with RDBMS systems like Oracle Database, IBM DB2, or MySQL
  • Knowledge of object-oriented programming, distributed systems, and software design principles
  • Advanced knowledge of database maintenance and administration using Microsoft SQL Server
  • Demonstrated ability to design and implement ETL workflows across both Windows and Linux environments
  • Motivated with the ability to work effectively with people across all levels of an organization
  • Experience with dimensional data modeling and schema design in Data Warehouses
  • Bachelor's or masters degree in computer science or related technical field
  • Direct experience with Microsoft Azure or Amazon EC2 and Redshift
  • Experience with NoSQL systems like MongoDB, Redis, or Cassandra is a plus
  • Practical experience with SQL, Hive, Pig, R, Python, or Java is an advantage
