Job summary

The Red Hat Platform Engineering team is looking for a Principal Software Engineer to join us in Westford, MA. In this role, you will work with exciting technologies like Project Atomic, containers, and kubernetes. You'll be part of a distributed team working both independently and in collaboration with other team members and upstream developers. You'll need to be passionate about software development and open source.

Primary job responsibilities

  • Become familiar with the different container and clustering technologies we use at Red Hat, including Red Hat Enterprise Linux Atomic Host and OpenShift by Red Hat
  • Work with the team to guide our Red Hat Enterprise Linux Atomic Host architecture
  • Develop and maintain Red Hat Enterprise Linux Atomic Host packages involved in advanced storage, network, clustering, administration, and configuration
  • Engage with the community to implement changes in upstream code as needed
  • Work with Red Hat engineers to ensure collaboration between teams

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
  • 5+ years of significant software development experience
  • Experience in multiple programming languages, especially Python and C; experience with Go is a plus
  • Solid understanding of cloud computing and Infrastructure-as-a-Service (Iaas)
  • Ability to recognize and develop new architectures
  • Good knowledge of unit testing frameworks and methodologies
  • Passion for open source software development

The following are considered a plus:

  • Experience with KVM-based virtualization and libvirt
  • Familiarity with technologies like containers, Kubernetes, and systemd
  • Linux system administration expertise
