Job summary

The Red Hat Sales team is looking for a Middleware Specialist Solutions Architect to join us in Boston, MA. In this role you will use your extensive technical expertise in Java, middleware, and supporting technologies to solve our customers' complex business problems. You‘ll work directly with Red Hat’s customers to understand their infrastructure and business needs and present them with the most appropriate middleware solutions. You'll develop and conduct live demonstrations of our Red Hat JBoss Middleware offerings and educate customers on their capabilities, as well as help with the design and development of larger, complex solutions. We'll need you to be familiar with the middleware domain with recent, practical coding and architecture experience and excellent customer-facing skills. The role can be located anywhere in the northeast U.S.

Primary job responsibilities

  • Provide technical credibility to the Red Hat Sales team
  • Scope, design, develop, test, and present proof-of-concept applications using our offerings
  • Develop and conduct live demonstrations of our middleware offerings
  • Educate customers on the capabilities of Red Hat JBoss Middleware software offerings
  • Assist sales teams in answering technical questions, possibly in the form of RFPs or RFIs
  • Identify the appropriate technologies that solve problems of our customers
  • Form relationships with the customer technical staff to identify new opportunities
  • Contribute to Red Hat JBoss Middleware offerings through documentation (e.g., wiki, quick-start guides, and whitepapers) or development (e.g., demonstrations, bug fixes, enhancements, and suggestions)
  • Provide feedback to Product Management and Engineering teams on the direction of the development of our offerings and on customer applicability of features

Required skills

  • Background in consulting, enterprise architecture, presales, or sales engineering
  • 7+ years of standard Java development
  • 3+ years of JEE development (Red Hat JBoss EAP, WildFly, Oracle WebLogic Server, IBM WebSphere Application Server, etc.)
  • 3+ years in system architecture with recent practical experience with API technologies like Red Hat API Management Platform, 3scale by Red Hat, apiman.io, MuleSoft, Apigee, Tibco Mashery, or WSO2

Practical experience with any of the following:


  • Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) technologies like OpenShift by Red Hat, Cloud Foundry, Docker, or Kubernetes
  • Integration technologies like Red Hat JBoss Fuse, Apache Camel, Apache ServiceMix, MuleSoft, WSO2, IBM Integration Bus, WESB, WMB, or Oracle SOA Suite
  • Messaging technologies like Red Hat JBoss AMQ, Apache ActiveMQ, Apache Qpid, IBM WebSphere MQ, or Tibco EMS
  • Data virtualization technologies like Red Hat JBoss Data Virtualization, Teiid, Composite, or Informatica
  • Distributed caching technologies like Red Hat JBoss Data Grid, Infinispan, Oracle Coherence, or Terracotta BigMemory
  • Business rules software including Red Hat JBoss BRMS, Drools, IBM iLog or ODM, and FICO Blaze Advisor
  • Business Process Management (BPM) software like Red Hat JBoss BPM Suite, jBPM, IBM BPM, and Pegasystems

The following are considered a plus:


  • C, C++, or .NET development skills
  • Experience with Apache Maven and Git
  • Technical writing skills
