Job summary

The Red Hat Software Engineering team is looking for a Principal Software Engineer to join us in Bangalore, India. In this role, you will work on the upstream Ansible network modules. You’ll collaborate with other engineers working with Ansible networking, building modules to support various strategic vendor devices. We’ll need you to have a knowledge of several operating systems and solid foundation in computer science. As a Principal Software Engineer, you’ll work with GitHub and Ansible in a fast-paced environment based on peer review workflow.

Primary job responsibilities

  • Create new features in Python for specific networking vendor operating systems
  • Contribute to upstream projects   
  • Submit and review patches for bug fixes to and from the community
  • Educate the team on new features via pull request reviews, or small team presentations
  • Work with the Quality Engineering team to ensure correct project testing
  • Publicize the team’s work via blogs, web postings, or conference talks

Required skills

  • Solid object-oriented software development skills and proficient development experience in Python
  • Knowledge of YANG modeling   
  • Experience with several of network operating systems like Cisco IOS, IOS-XR, NX-OS, Juniper, Junos, Arista EOS, VyOS
  • Knowledge of APIs like NETCONF, RESTCONF, or GRP   
  • Experience with automated testing tools
