Job summary

The Red Hat OpenShift Support team is looking for a Software Maintenance Engineer to join us in Poland. In this role, you will collaborate with our customers' top developers and architects, understanding, troubleshooting, and guiding complex and challenging issues to resolution. You will partner closely with Red Hat development engineering teams and work alongside some of the brightest developers in the open source community. You'll work with the industry's newest technologies, OpenShift by Red Hat, Docker, and Kubernetes and use and expand your knowledge of networking, performance, and storage. We'll need you to have excellent teamwork and communication skills, as you will be part of a diverse team working around the world to create the most value for our customers and partners.

Primary job responsibilities

  • Use your engineering experience to understand, troubleshoot, and debug customer issues to ensure they are able to get full value from OpenShift by Red Hat solution
  • Partner with the OpenShift Online and OpenShift Origin communities to develop and review patches and test cases
  • Guide customer-facing support cases, exceed customer expectations, and provide outstanding customer service
  • Maintain technical knowledge of all aspects of our technology and market
  • Share your knowledge gained from troubleshooting issues by contributing to the global Red Hat knowledge management system
  • Work closely with Red Hat development engineering and assist production support engineers and technical account managers
  • Maintain a commitment to providing the best experience possible for Red Hat customers

Required skills

  • Solid software engineering experience with multiple programming languages and experience writing patches and pull requests
  • Knowledge of Openshift by Red Hat, Docker, Kubernetes, or other container tools
  • Experience with Linux, or UNIX operating systems; good understanding of installation, configuration, upgrade, and maintenance
  • Ability to quickly learn new languages and technologies
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience within the enterprise IT

The following experience and knowledge will be considered a plus:

  • Upstream involvement in open source projects (patches submitted for upstream inclusion)
  • Performance troubleshooting
  • Networking, specifically software-defined networking
  • Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) environments (public and private cloud), e.g., Red Hat OpenStack, Microsoft Azure, or Amazon Web Services (AWS)
  • Clustering and high availability
  • Virtualization   
  • Node.js, Ruby (web frameworks), or Python (web frameworks)
  • .NET Framework
  • Databases, Restful APIs, Storage, JBoss, Tomcat
