Job summary

Red Hat's Ansible Consulting team is looking for a Network Automation Consultant to join us. In this role, you will promote the adoption of Red Hat's solutions at our key enterprise accounts, government agencies, and service provider partners. You’ll work both in-person and remotely to win the trust and confidence of customer engineering, development, and operations teams by matching their requirements and use cases with functional capabilities of our solutions. As a Network Automation Consultant, you’ll need to have detailed working knowledge and practical experience with Ansible by Red Hat and a high level of familiarity with Chef, Puppet, Salt, and similar technologies on the market. You’ll also need to use your solid understanding of network device automation methodologies and tools to apply them within target organizations. This is a remote position with weekly travel to client sites and can be located anywhere in North America within close proximity to an airport.

Primary job responsibilities

  • Serve as the Ansible by Red Hat on-site subject matter expert
  • Deliver and support the deployment of Ansible by Red Hat automation for networking devices and other related technologies on customer projects
  • Design, create, and deliver content that will enable us to design, service, and support our automation solutions at scale

Required skills

  • Background in architecting and designing complex customer solutions in a rapidly evolving technology domain
  • 5+ years of experience in a systems engineering or network automation consulting delivery role
  • 4+ years of experience with network environments and their supporting infrastructures
  • Solid background in a consultative customer engagement role with a major consulting services organization or in the services division of a major software company
  • Proven track record of working in a strategic advisory capacity to senior IT and business executives
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills; considerable experience presenting to C-level executives at large firms
  • Solutions sales mentality in an environment with multiple offerings and solutions
  • Proven ability to work seamlessly with distributed cross-functional teams to achieve success on behalf of customers
  • Good balance of strategic and tactical skills; creative with the ability to quickly adjust as the situation changes
  • Ability to study on your own and quickly learn and put into practice new facts
  • Passion for open source, software, tooling, and automation
    Intermediate-level scripting in Bash or Python
  • Development skills
  • Experience developing with APIs and web services like SOAP and REST
  • Experience with scripting in Expect
  • Familiarity with Git
  • Basic understanding of network technologies and services, such as routing and switching, DNS, firewalls, and load balancers
  • Experience with system administration in Linux and managing software like Apache or MySQL
  • Experience implementing a continuous integration (CI) or continuous development (CD) pipeline
  • Knowledge of container management and orchestration tools
  • Comfortable working with highly distributed teams, including interaction with open source communities by email and IRC
  • Familiarity with security fundamentals at the infrastructure and operating system level, including the cloud environment and hypervisors
  • Willingness to travel up to 75%
  • Experience across one or more industry areas is a plus
